Sevenoaks’ Stag Theatre could close for good after Covid-19 unless it finds a cash injection of £250,000. Without this the outlook for the town’s much-loved venue is very “bleak”. The Stag management team have launched an urgent fundraising appeal

In a statement released on Tuesday:

“No one could have foreseen the financial devastation the impact of Covid-19 has had. Theatres across the country are closing down permanently and we must fight for our local theatre and save our Stag”.

The theatre is run as an independent charity with the backing of Sevenoaks Town Council and a £27,000 grant. The Town Council will be considering whether it can offer further financial support at a meeting on June 29 and is appealing to other bodies to back the venue financially as well.

Sevenoaks Mayor Nicholas Busvine said:

“The Stag Theatre is the cultural heart of Sevenoaks. IT also has a vital part to play in supporting the town centre’s night-time economy. Sevenoaks Town Council saved the Stag in 2008 and we are a determined to do so again. But for this to happen we will need the support of the local community. This is an SOS call to all of you – ‘Save our Stag’.
