At the Annual Meeting of Sevenoaks Town Council held on Monday 15th May 2023, Councillor Claire Shea was elected the new Mayor of Sevenoaks.

Cllr Claire Shea was first elected to Sevenoaks Town Council in 2019 and re-elected on 4th May 2023. She has lived near Bradbourne Lakes since 2009 with her husband and three school-aged children. Her career began in retail, working for the John Lewis Partnership, moving later into the design and project management of major housing, hospitals and regeneration projects for a major contractor. The experience has given her good experience of designing solutions and getting things done.

Cllr Shea believes in collaborative and inclusive politics. She wants safe streets around our schools, cleaner air for all our citizens, improvements to our parks and green spaces, and the best sustainable design for the homes we need.

Cllr Claire Shea said:
“I am very honoured to have been elected as Mayor by my fellow town councillors. I look forward to working with local businesses, charities, schools and clubs across the town. I have chosen two charities to support this year – Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees and Sevenoaks Larder. Both are brilliant examples of citizens coming together to meet the needs of the community”.

It was noted that Cllr Shea is the third consecutive female councillor holding the civic post of Mayor.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Libby Ancrum was elected as the Deputy Mayor.
